What are polygons?

Back to Geometry

Look around you and with a keen eye you'll see that the world is made up of many, many shapes.

In this section we're going to look at two dimensional shapes. Another way of describing two dimensional shapes is to say that they are 'flat' shapes. Three dimensional shapes on the other hand have got depth to them; they are also called 3D shapes. They will be covered later on, but for now you can use the image below to see how they differ visually.

What are polygons?

Almost anything can be described as being a shape. There are shapes made completely of curves, shapes with straight lines only, and shapes with both. Polygons are shapes that are only made up of straight lines; they are a type of two dimensional shape.

Identify the polygons in the image below and then roll over with your mouse to see if you got them all.
